When and where did karting originate?

The first kart was built by a man named Art Ingels in Southern California during 1956. The concept originated from his existing interest in hot rods and race car building. In fact, he was a famous builder of Indy racecars during the fifties and was working as such a builder at Kurtis Kraft when the idea came to him.

What is CIK-FIA?

This is the Commission Internationale de Karting. Founded in 1962 and headquartered in Paris, it is the primary international sanctioning body for Kart racing. It joined with FIA, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, in the year 2000. The most important event which it is known for is the Karting World Championship.

What is a Superkart?

Traditionally, Superkarts are 250 cc engine karts with gearboxes. They are the fastest category in kart racing. In fact, it is not uncommon for them to set faster lap times than racing machines that are more expensive and advanced. Unlike other kart forms they have full aerodynamic bodykits. They also make use of full size car circuits.
