Kart Chassis
The kart chassis, or frame, is comprised of a steel tube.
They must be flexible enough to operate as a suspension. At the same
time, they must also be stiff enough that they do not break or give
on a turn.
In the UAS, kart chassis are classified in four different ways. Open
ones have no roll cage, while caged ones do. Straight chassis have the
driver seated in dead center. The offset ones will have the driver seated
on the left side.
The different classifications of kart chassis are most suitable for
different applications. For instance, the ones with roll cages surrounding
the driver are generally used for dirt tracks. The straight ones are
ideal for sprint racing. Finally, an offset chassis will be used for
left-turn-only speedway racing. To be approved by the Commission Internationale
de Karting, chassis must be 'Straight' and 'Open.'
